Vestibular and concussion assessments are evaluations used to diagnose and manage issues related to balance, dizziness, and head injuries, particularly concussions.
Vestibular Assessment
The vestibular system is a part of the inner ear and brain that helps control balance and eye movements. A vestibular assessment is used to evaluate the function of this system, especially if a person is experiencing dizziness, vertigo, balance problems, or related symptoms. The assessment may include:
Videonystagmography (VNG): Tests eye movements to see how they are affected by changes in head position. In the clinic this is done using infrared video goggle technology to augment the assessment.
Rotational Chair Testing: Measures how the vestibular system responds to movement.
Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP): Evaluates the reflexes that stabilize vision during head movements.
Balance Tests: Balance and postural tests to assess overall stability.
